Regional Collaboration with Safety Services for Cost Savings
Operating safety services takes careful planning and fiscal responsibility. I am proud of the service we provide to my family and yours. Through cost-effective, regional collaboration, The Plain Township Board of Trustees has contracted for safety services with the Stark County Sheriff’s Department, in which the Sheriff's Office provides sixteen Deputies, including a Detective assigned exclusively to our Township.
The Deputies and Detective provide a wide range of services, including patrolling Plain Township roads and neighborhoods, conducting investigations of criminal and civil complaints, and providing a School Resource Officer in the schools.
This contract provides our residents of Plain Township with their own police protection. While some neighboring communities spend $4.2 million to have their own Police Department, Plain Township has comparable, if not better safety services for only $1.7 million annually. This is a $2.5 annual cost savings to our residents. Additionally, a Sheriff’s Deputy attends every Plain Township Trustee meeting to document new issues before they become a problem. This is just another pro-active level of service that Plain Township residents have come to expect.
More importantly, the Plain Township Board of Trustees owns all the equipment used, including twenty police cruisers.
